"I Shall Believe" Music Video - Matt Brouwer

Now a Covenant Award Nominee!

I've had the privilege to work with Universal artist Matt Brouwer at my church for the past three years. Matt isn't just my friend, he's also a top-notch songwriter, and it's been fun watching the public finally starting to take a little notice.

As he was releasing his latest record, Where's Our Revolution, Matt approached me and Daniel Karr about the possibility of producing him an EPK promoting the record. We agreed, he swung by one night to shoot a bunch of footage, and we assembled a finished promotional video (that video is available here). We'd shot a number of different things for the video, including a "music video" for one of the songs that we intended to just use 30 seconds of in the promo and pretend that an entire music video existed somewhere.

However, we managed to shoot so much footage for the video that assembling an entire music video became a real possibility. Matt called me up and said "well, I don't have any more money, but - do you guys want to finish this thing out?" I'm always sucker for making something fun. I signed right up.

The three of us drove into Houston one night and just wandered the city, looking for interesting places to shoot. It couldn't have been any more low-tech: we didn't even have a CD player to play the song back, Matt just had to sing the song as best he remembered it and leave it to us to sync it all together later. It was pure guerilla filmmaking: we shot in abandoned parking garages and snuck on to the roofs of darkened office buildings, where ever we could find a shot.

Since its completion, "I Shall Believe" has been played on GMC, TBN, and nominated for a Covenant Award by the Gospel Music Association. Matt, Daniel, and I are already in talks to shoot another video sometime soon - maybe this time with a budget.
