"Joy To The World" Music Video - Zach Hendricks
Zach gave me a call one afternoon to say that he and his band would be in the studio that Saturday, and he wondered if I could get a chance to stop by and shoot some footage of the band recording a Christmas song he'd written. I had fun spending the day stringing Christmas lights behind the musicians as they recorded (fun fact: the electric current from Christmas lights can cause a faint buzz to appear in an audio recording. This often annoys musicians when it's discovered that the problem they'd spent an hour working on was in fact caused by the twinkling lights draped across the keyboard).
A couple of days later, I happened to have a camera handy while the band played the song at a youth event. I edited the performance together with the Christmas song, and voila, music video.
I love the video, but Zach and I have talked about having a second crack at this: staging a concert in a cool location and shooting the whole choreographed dance that goes with the song. To me, though, I love the energy in that live footage, where the band doesn't know that they're being taped. There's something really honest about that performance.
